Saga Prefecture is the home of Arita Porcelain, which has a 400 year history here. Arita town is a small town that continues the traditions of Arita-yaki porcelain, passed down over generations of potters. This town contains many active potters, and visitors there are able to purchase their creations. In late April to early May every year there is a ceramics fair held in Arita, and people visit the town from all over Japan seeking bargains on porcelain. The 2 day journey includes a trip to Arita, and an optional excursion to one of the famous kilns there.
