Fukuoka City is the capital city of Kyushu, and is one of the 10 most populated cities in Japan with a current estimation of 1.5 million residents. Fukuoka has been ranked highly in Monocle’s Quality of Life Survey over the past few years. Hakata Station is the main terminal in Fukuoka, connecting the Kyushu with the rest of Japan on the Shinkansen lines, and the city with local and subway lines. The city is very accessible with the international and domestic airport located only 5 minutes by subway from Hakata Station. Fukuoka is well known throughout Japan for its Yatai (street food and drink stalls) that operate in the evenings. The small stalls offer local delicacies such as Hakata ramen noodles and grilled chicken skewers.
